10 Must-Play Sequel Video Games You Missed

10 Must-Play Sequel Games You Missed

Forgotten sequels you might not have known existed!

Here are some video game sequels you might have missed:

  1. Super Mario Bros. 2:

The Lost Levels (NES): This sequel to the original Super Mario Bros. was only released in Japan for a long time. It's notoriously difficult, even for fans of the original. While some hardcore gamers love the challenge, it wasn't exactly what most players were expecting.

  1. Street Fighter Alpha: Warriors' Dreams (Arcade, PlayStation):

This prequel to the classic Street Fighter series added some interesting new mechanics and characters. However, it wasn't quite as polished or well-balanced as the main Street Fighter games.

  1. Mega Man X7 (PlayStation):

The Mega Man X series was a beloved follow-up to the original Mega Man games. However, Mega Man X7 introduced some frustrating gameplay changes and a confusing story. It's considered a low point in the series by many fans.

  1. Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball (Sega Genesis):

This wasn't quite a traditional Sonic game. Instead, it was a pinball game starring Sonic. It had some clever ideas, but the controls and overall gameplay weren't quite as fun as the main Sonic series.

  1. Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge (Game Boy Advance):

This sequel to the popular Nintendo 64 game Banjo-Kazooie tried to bring the 3D platformer experience to the handheld Game Boy Advance.  The graphics and controls were limited by the system's technology, making it a less enjoyable experience than the original.

  1. Nights: Journey of Dreams (Wii):

Remember the amazing Sega Saturn game Nights? Well, it almost got a sequel on the Dreamcast! This sequel eventually came out on the Wii in 2007 called Journey of Dreams. The original team even worked on it, but sadly, it wasn't quite as magical as the first game. The controls and music weren't as good, and the new motion controls (using the Wii remote) weren't very smooth.

  1. Pokémon Card GB2: Great Rocket-Dan Sanjō! (Game Boy):

Remember the fun Pokémon Trading Card Game on the Game Boy? Japan actually got a sequel called Great Rocket-Dan Sanjō! It had new cards, a practice mode, and a system to rate your deck. It sounds awesome, but it never came out anywhere else! Nintendo probably thought it wouldn't be popular when the Game Boy Advance came out.

  1. Halo: Spartan Strike (PC, Mobile):

The Halo games are usually on Xbox, but there's one sequel that never showed up there! Halo: Spartan Strike is a follow-up to the mobile game Spartan Assault. It's a shooting game set in the Halo world, but it's only available on PC, iPhone, and Android.  If you have a PC Game Pass subscription, you can even download it for free!

  1. Tetris 2 (NES, SNES, Game Boy):

Believe it or not, there was once a Tetris 2! This wasn't a regular Tetris game though. Instead of clearing lines with falling blocks, you had to match coloured blocks already on the screen. It was kind of like Dr. Mario, but not as fun. Thankfully, most Tetris games stuck to the original formula we all know and love.

  1. Pac-Man 2:

The New Adventures (NES): Pac-Man has tons of sequels, but Pac-Man 2 is one you might want to forget. This game completely changed the formula. Instead of running through a maze eating dots, it was a platformer with puzzles! You didn't even directly control Pac-Man, you had to solve puzzles to change his mood and make him move. Not exactly what made the original Pac-Man so fun!

These are just a few examples of sequels that might have flown under the radar, or for good reason. Some offered interesting new ideas, while others strayed too far from what made the originals fun.  Do any of these forgotten sequels pique your interest?
