VACCINE - WHAT? WHY? HOW?

The vaccine is administered primarily to prevent disease.

These are the biological agents comprising of suspension of weakened, killed, or fragmented microorganisms or toxins or of antibodies or lymphocytes that elicits an immune response to a certain antigen and is obtained from the pathogen that is responsible for that particular disease.

In simple words vaccines are the substance that is derived from the infectious agent which is the primary cause of that particular disease enters the body to produce immunity.

WHY SHOULD WE VACCINATE?

These are the immunity boosters to a certain disease that is either pandemic or an outbreak of a dangerous disease in a population. So the immunization in childhood/adulthood; vaccines play a key role to protect yourself from those diseases. No matter what the age group you belong to.

HOW DO VACCINES WORK?

In the human body, vaccines develop immunity. In vaccination process the body is exposed to a treated virus with no disease-causing ability, a network of immune system activates & protect the body in response to the antigen that penetrates the body. The body in response to that antigen produces antibodies to kill those viral antigens.

This is how vaccine mimics the exposure of the virus to the body, thereby producing immunity.

When first time the body is infected to that particular antigen, which is why you get ill. If that antigen infects you again, the immune system can recognize it, as it already has those antibodies as memory cells that protect the body before any harm.

VACCINES CAUSE AFTER-EFFECTS?

·       They are signs that the body’s immune system is responding to the vaccine, specifically the antigen (a substance that triggers an immune response), and is gearing up to fight the virus.

·        Experiencing no side effects doesn’t mean the vaccine is ineffective. It means everybody responds differently.

Yes it is true that vaccine side effects but in a precise manner. The side effect is usually very mild, like soreness in the arm at the site of the administration or a low-grade fever in response to the body pyrogens are activated, and only last a few days. Individual may also suffer from body-ache, muscular pain, fatigue, & diarrhoea. 

Like any medication or medical treatment, vaccines are clinically tested for safety and continuously monitored to ensure no adverse side effects

Also, sometimes in some patients it may have a more serious allergic reaction and need medical attention, but this is very rare, so before administration it is necessary to get the patient history and discuss the risks and benefits ratio of vaccines with your physician or pharmacist. As the protective benefits of vaccines are more and provide lesser risks of side effects.

Vaccination redeems millions of lives and is widely the most successful and cost-effective health interventions recognized. Immunization redeems up to 3 million lives each year worldwide from infectious diseases, like hepatitis, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), measles and polio and nowadays Covid-19.

WHEN THERE WAS NO OPPORTUNITY TO GET VACCINATED?

Nevertheless, it has proven the effectiveness of vaccines and the tens of millions of lives they have redeemed, an estimated 400,000 people die every year needlessly in the Western Pacific Region from diseases that vaccines could ward off. The goal of vaccination is to provide greater action on immunization by promoting awareness in the general public by highlighting the focus role in parents, health-care worker, legislator, media agencies, and eventually everyone, so working together & play a vital role in a society.
